March is a busy month for the teams deploying SystmOne Prison. By the end of the month, a further six prisons will have Gone Live on the system, and with one more in April, the total number of SystmOne prisons will hit the 30 mark. By the end of April, 22 of the 42 prisons in the three CSC clusters will be live on SystmOne Prison.
On any given day, more than 85,000 people are being cared for in 160 prisons around the United Kingdom. Around 70,000 prisoner transfers occur annually in England and Wales. Caring for these patients is one of the most challenging roles for a clinician. SystmOne Prison instantly transfers a patient's health record to another prison via a secure notification system.
SystmOne Prison includes many of the features of SystmOne GP including full QOF functionality, with a number of components created exclusively for The Prison Service, such as the custom-built dental GUI (Graphical User Interface). With SystmOne Prison, the burden of high-volume prisoner reception is eased. Data from LIDS (the Prison Service database) is uploaded electronically, and automatically updates prisoner demographic details.
Pam Lumsden is the RA & GP Deployment Lead for West Hertfordshire Quadrant and is involved in the deployment of SystmOne Prison to HMP The Mount. "Choosing SystmOne Prison gave us the opportunity to get involved with other prisons and hopefully develop a standard prison system," says Pam. "The possibility of receiving prisoners whose information is already on the system is also seen as a benefit. And the fact that you can utilise the prison system data is a benefit for everyone."
Pam continues, "West Hertfordshire PCT is looking to develop a totally integrated healthcare system and we think that deploying SystmOne Prison to HMP The Mount will help achieve that."
Louis Elder is TPP's Clinical System Analyst specialising in the SystmOne Prison module. He says, "This is a fantastic time to be involved with the SystmOne Prison module. It's great to see the growth taking place due to the efforts of both TPP and CSC."
SystmOne Prison is part of the Local Service Provider primary care solution being offered by CSC to the North East, East & East Midlands, and North West & West Midlands NHS Clusters.
