SystmOne and Bradford CKDEAS shortlisted for Health Service Journal Award

A project that has the innovative use of SystmOne at its core has been shortlisted in the 'Improving Care With Technology' category of this year's Health Service Journal Awards.

The Chronic Kidney Disease Electronic Advisory Service (CKDEAS) was developed by Dr John Connolly (GP and Technical Lead, NHS Bradford and Airedale) and Dr John Stoves (nephrology and general medicine consultant, Bradford Royal Infirmary), with support from PACE (Promoting Action on Clinical Effectiveness) and Bradford Institute for Health Research. The project, which uses SystmOne as a communication and 'e-consultation' tool between primary and secondary care clinicians, has led to a reduction in unnecessary referrals to secondary care for renal patients in NHS Bradford & Airedale.

The HSJ Awards received more than 1,000 entries in total this year, so to be shortlisted is a fantastic achievement. Richard Vize, editor of HSJ says, "With the healthcare sector facing a significant spending squeeze, it has become more important than ever to focus on safety, quality, innovation and productivity. The entries demonstrate the immense efforts that teams across the NHS are making to meet that challenge."

The 'Improving Care With Technology' category invited entries that demonstrated work reflecting national IT priorities; demonstrable benefits to the patient; mainstreaming IT within the organisation; partnership working between trusts and the private sector; engaging with clinicians; and supporting new ways of working.

Dr John Stoves and Dr John Connolly will present the project to judges at the end of September, along with the other five finalists in the category. The winner will be announced on 30th November at a glitzy awards ceremony in London.
