GP: Deploying SystmOne to One of the Largest Practices in the Country

Newgate Medical Group in Worksop, Bassetlaw PCT, recently migrated almost 34,000 patients to SystmOne. They are one of the largest practices in the country and went live on SystmOne GP on February 1st 2008.

This case study looks at how to achieve a successful data migration for a large practice, and contains hints and tips about business change, data migration and training from Nottinghamshire Health Informatics team.

GP: De Pary's Medical Centre, Bedford

De Pary's Medical Centre in Bedfordshire took advantage of NPfIT to run the business more effectively. The practice decided to move to the SystmOne centrally hosted service provided through their local service provider, CSC. SystmOne has allowed the practice to deliver a much faster service.

Integrated Care: South East Essex PCT

South East Essex PCT's first practice went live on SystmOne GP in May 2002. Since then, the number of deployments has steadily increased, with nearly four-fifths of GP practices going live as well as the PCT's Child Health, Community and prison services. This case study aims to show how and why the PCT has put all of its efforts into deploying SystmOne.

Integrated Care: Northern Lincolnshire Local Health Community

Northern Lincolnshire has a widespread community, distributed across a largely rural area with two main urban centres in Grimsby and Scunthorpe.Through the NPfIT, the LHC has deployed the CSC Integrated Primary Care Solution built on SystmOne GP, Community and Child Health and the CSC Single Assessment Process (SAP) solution. Moving to a centrally hosted solution has provided an immediate saving of £157,000 a year from licence fees alone.

TPP's focus on developing SystmOne Out of Hours has been to provide a system that can improve the quality and standard of clinical outcomes. Clinicians at Out of Hours centres have access to the patient's medical record, enabling them to see a full problem and medication history, meaning that they can make care decisions with all the information they need to hand.

This case study focuses on three Out of Hours services - Bradford & Airedale GP Emergency Centre, North East Lincolnshire Out of Hours, and County Durham & Darlington PCT Out of Hours Service.

Prisons: HMP Morton Hall, Lincoln

Morton Hall is a Semi-Open Women's prison near Newark-on-Trent, Lincolnshire. The Health Care Centre is located within the prison and has 30 staff members. Using SystmOne Prison, the centre has seen a huge reduction in paper, speedier registrations and pathology results are now turned around in 24-48 hours instead of a week.

Secondary Care: Clinical Therapies and Rehabilitation Directorate, Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust

The Clinical Therapies and Rehabilitation Directorate within Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust is made up of four service areas: Acute and Planned Care; Long Term Conditions; Outpatient Therapies and Children’s Therapies. These services are provided across Acute, Primary and Community settings. The Directorate started looking at an alternative system because across the five AHP professions, there were 28 different systems. Information was unreliable and it was not possible to match activity to cost.

The vision of the scope of the project grows continuously with the realisation of what SystmOne can offer. Despite covering four different service areas and employing 550 people, the whole service is committed to using SystmOne in a standardised way.

Training: Bedfordshire Shared Services

Between August 2006 and March 2007 Bedfordshire Shared Services provided training for over 224 NHS staff across Bedfordshire. Staff were trained on a wide variety of NHS Connecting for Health systems, including SystmOne GP and SystmOne Prison.

Voice Connect Telephone Appointment System - Blackwater Medical Centre

Blackwater Medical Centre is located in the town of Maldon, in East Essex. The Partners and Practice Manager were looking for ways to reduce call congestion and make it easier for patients to arrange apointments. They felt that an automated telephone system, in the form of Patient Partner, could help with this common problem.
