SystmOne is a very comprehensive system.

SystmOne is user-friendly but user-adaptable. It brings up a lot of really useful information. You can configure it exactly the way you want, even having different configurations for different users.

The appointments system on SystmOne is excellent. The colour coding is very useful. It’s not just black and white. It’s friendly to the eye. The colours change, allowing you to monitor things like how many patients have been seen and how many are waiting. This information is very useful. When the screen turns a certain colour, you know you’ve got real problems because it means there are a lot of patients in the waiting room!

It takes a good couple of months to get to grips with SystmOne because it is such a big system, but TPP’s trainers are excellent and really help. The difference with TPP’s trainers is that they have experience of General Practice and are able to understand what you want from the system. One of our staff members has difficulties using a mouse, which we thought was going to be a problem. Our TPP trainer immediately showed us how to get round that by using the keyboard. Little things like that make the difference. When we have experienced problems, TPP’s trainers have known instantly how to get round them.

Being able to construct your own SystmOne templates for things like diabetes management is excellent. We’re starting to use them a lot more now. It’s nice because you can makes things quite rigid, meaning we can ensure our nurses ask certain questions.

SystmOne suits all levels of user. We have people in the practice who are computer novices and they’ve coped well, whilst those who are more computer literate are starting to get quite inventive.

When we are referred to TPP’s helpdesk, we find them absolutely brilliant. The staff are excellent, polite and very knowledgeable. They understand what we want and give us answers to our questions. Doctors tend to moan and perhaps don’t always explain the problem terribly well, yet TPP’s helpdesk staff understand how doctors and nurses talk and seem to know what we want. The Online Help is very good but the helpdesk staff save me from reading through the 90% I don’t need and cut straight through to the 10% I do need. They’re very, very good indeed.

We’ve just seen a patient registered under SystmOne Child Health, and we’ve got all the vaccinations through. That’s absolutely brilliant! Previously, I would have needed to enter the data myself and potentially get something wrong. Having that information available on SystmOne already saved me about 15 minutes. We really are starting to see true electronic transfer of data due to TPP’s SystmOne. That’s the way forward.

We, at Thorpe Road Surgery, have no regrets about switching to SystmOne.
