Your target is to have discharge letters sent to GPs within 24 hours of a patient's discharge from hospital. With SystmOne, all discharge letters can be managed from a single screen and are available as soon as the patient is admitted. Letters can be sent electronically via DTS or NHSmail, or printed out.

If your patient is registered at a GP practice that uses SystmOne, the discharge letter is received by the practice immediately after it is sent by the hospital. What's more, if the GP practice uses SystmOne, they will be able to see all the information added to the patient record during their stay in hospital, creating a truly integrated patient record.
If the patient's GP practice uses a different clinical system, the notification can still be sent electronically . If the GP practice uses EMIS LV or Vision then they will receive the discharge letter the same day using DTS directly into the GP practice’s system. If the GP practice uses a different electronic patient record system or are paper based they can receive the letter electronically via SystmOne’s ability to send the discharge letters automatically to a practice’s NHSmail address. Whichever method is used, all notifications can be received within the 24 hour target window. Of course, if preferred ,you can still print the letter from SystmOne and send it manually in the post. or by fax.

With SystmOne, each user can set up templates for their discharge letters. These templates can be easily configured to pull data from the patient episode so that discharge letter production is efficient and accurate. Though template based, users always have the opportunity to amend an individual patient’s discharge letter as required.
If you already have letter templates set up in Microsoft Word, you can simply import them into SystmOne and carry on using them. Alternatively, you may wish to develop new letters in Word, or in the SystmOne letter writer. A wide variety of merge fields are available whichever method you choose, allowing you to make sure that useful and complete information is included in the letter.
Should letters need re-printing, a simple and quick search allows you to find letters completed in a certain date range and, if appropriate, by a particular staff member. From the list of results, you can view and reprint the letter.
